We Nourish Greatness

We believe Breakfast leads to Better Days - we provide breakfast to 25 000 school children in South Africa.

We Nourish Greatness

We believe that starting the day with a full tummy is essential for helping kids get the most out of their school day, and we are proud to be doing our part in fighting hunger here in South Africa, and around the world.

In 2014, we launched the Breakfast for Better Days initiative in South Africa, this began as a global promise to donate 1 billion serves of cereal and snacks to those most in need in our communities.

All schools on this program were selected by the Department of Education and were identified as non-fee-paying schools serving communities affected by unemployment and poverty. Food Forward South Africa facilitates the distribution of Kellogg’s® cereals and long-life milk, to 44 different schools across the country. There is a strong focus towards the low socioeconomic communities across PE, Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.

We now have 25 000 learners receiving a nutritious breakfast every school day. Over 95% of our learners are classified as previously disadvantaged, and they are a combination of male and female learners between the ages of 5 and 13.

This access to food gives learners the nutrition they need to develop in line with other children and provide the energy needed to stay focused in class. Since many of the children do not have enough nutritious food at home – this breakfast is often the only meal they get for the day.

The positive results of the successful delivery of 125 000 breakfasts per week is*:

  • Increased and timeous learner & teacher attendance.

  • Increased learners’ attention spans, positively impacting on learning in class.

  • Improved learner self-esteem and increased participation in class.

  • Parents are showing more interest in the education of their children and are assisting with serving breakfast to the learners.

At Kellogg’s®, we believe that breakfast is important to help kids have a better day and unlock their full potential.
